Q&A
Why did you join City Year? I’m a strong advocate of the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” which is something I found that City Year and I had in common when I was first applying.  I joined again because I wanted to serve in a non-profit and for students of a community I can relate to.

What is your favorite thing about your current role? I get to share why City Year is a great organization and select those who are the best fit for the corps member role.  I love that I am working at a job where I love to be and I believe in our mission.

What is your favorite thing to do in Baton Rouge? There is a lot of culture in Baton Rouge.  I like to experience it by eating at local restaurants, attending festivals, or hosting get-togethers for friends and family.

If you were a City Year uniform piece, what would you be and why? The name tag – it sends an invitation to get to know the person wearing it by sharing their name and title.  I like for people to feel comfortable talking to me.  Especially in the role I have with City Year, it is important that I am approachable and relatable.

What was the most valuable lesson you learned during your time at City Year?  The most valuable lesson I learned was to make the most out of my time serving.  Whether it’s networking with the City Year or school staff, getting involved in all leadership opportunities at any level, or taking initiative!  It’s important to keep your life after City Year in the back of your head.  It’s only 10 months!
