Alumni Spotlight: Kamie Dominic

August 20, 2013

Alumni Profile

Name: Kamie Dominic
Position: Corps Member
Where I Served: Merrydale Elementary School 2012-2013

Why did you decide to serve with City Year? I decided to serve with City Year because I wanted to make a difference in children lives by showing them that education is a great route to take to become anything you want to be when you grow up.

What is your current role and how has serving with CYBR contributed to it? My current role is CEO of a nonprofit called Making Moves and Taking Charge, Inc. and a Teaching Fellow for Citizen Schools in Houston, Texas. Serving with CYBR contributed so much to my current roles, my experience taught me how to organize meetings, promote events, and work with individuals from different backgrounds.

Do you have any advice for corps members? This might be the toughest job you have but in the end you will most definitely see the growth in your kids and yourself. Keep your head up, stay focus, and have lots of fun.

What was the most valuable lesson you learned during your time at City Year? Presentation. Your presentation of yourself is everything. People look at your appearance and how you present yourself in public.

If you were a City Year uniform piece, what would you be and why? The All Weather Jacket because I can handle any obstacle that comes my way and still come out looking good.
