Box Tops for Education!

November 19, 2012

Hello from Merrydale!

A few weeks ago, we celebrated our first Box Tops competition winners of the year! If you’re a committed reader of this blog, you know that last year’s Merrydale team initiated the fundraising program called Box Tops for Education program at our school. We are continuing the program, and the competition started by the team last year. Students have been collecting box tops like crazy!

Our first competition ended in October, and a third grade class won! When choosing a celebration, my team and I tried our best to design the cutest possible party for a third grade class. We decided on a cupcake decorating party, and I think I can speak on behalf of the team when I say the celebration exceeded our cuteness expectations.

Each student had the opportunity to decorate a cupcake with icing, sprinkles, candy corn, and gummy worms  (shout out to Molly, our Team Leader for the gummy worm idea- they were a huge hit.) Everyone in the room (our team, the students, and their teacher) had a blast. Our day ended in laughter and sheer joy. Maybe this was due to the monstrous amount of sugar we all consumed, but it was more likely from interacting with kids in a positive setting, and seeing how glad they were to give back to their school. It was probably both.

 Love and happiness,

Emma Sullivan, Corps Member proudly serving at Merrydale Elementary School
