Houston, We do NOT have a problem

September 30, 2011

On Saturday September 24, 2011, the Sally Ride Science Festival was held at Louisiana State University.  Corps Members Sara R., Sarah K., Julia B., and Danny M. had an awesome day helping kids learn about all things science.  During the festival, around 300 students participated in a Street Fair with booths and hands-on activities, Discovery Workshops given by local scientists and engineers, and an inspiring talk by Captain Wendy Lawrence, a former NASA astronaut.

During her speech, Cpt. Lawrence, stressed the importance of education, especially math and science, to young girls.  Cpt. Lawrence became an inspiration to us all through her display of determination.  When she was a young girl, women had yet to be sent to space.  Her positive outlook on the future is the perfect message to send out to all young people.

Always,

Sara R
