A Busy Week at Broadmoor!

The Broadmoor Middle School Team with City Year's Regional Director, Pete November

“We’re from that Broadmoor Middle School, second to none!  WHAT’S UP SON!?”

This has already been a busy week at Broadmoor Middle School.  Yesterday the school hosted an open house so that parents could run through their student’s schedules and meet their student’s teachers.  City Year was, of course, present and excited to meet the parents as well.  Our principal made a point to introduce and appreciate us individually, which showed how dedicated she is to us, and truly made us feel like a part of the school team.

Today we got to have a mini Q&A session with Pete November, our Regional Director, who came all the way from the City Year Headquarters in Boston!  It was fun to sit down and talk to him about his experiences, and to share our experiences with him.  After talking to Pete in the City Year room, we gave him a tour around our school, which ended at the football field, where our first game was already in action.  Kasey Dumas, one of the Broadmoor team members, and Meli Manuselis, our site’s Program Director, showed their school spirit with a few buccaneer accessories.  Though the team did not win, it was fun to spend time with our kids outside of the academic day, and to see some of them take part in their extracurricular activities!

The week is not over for Broadmoor though.  On Friday we are presenting our community meeting for the corps, as well as attending the school dance!
